Hello Yeah It's Been Awhile...
Not much, how 'bout you.We decided to go from a radio playlist archive to an actual blog. Weather or not it's worth/waste of bandwidth, it's up to you, but sometimes We gotta let it all get out... Here we go...
Has Indie Become Adult Contemporary?
Sheesh. Don't even get me started. For every Wilco and Arcade Fire, there's literally 100's if not 1000's of other bands putting out music they want you to hear without the aid of a label and dozens of places that are not traditional concert halls to see live music in almost any college town. I'm not gonna list bands and labels here in the Pioneer Valley, we could do that all night, but if you have any interest in the cough Non-AC indie "scene" cough here, may I direct you to our links section to give you a good idea what's going on here outside of the sewer empire. Pick something you never heard before that has an interesting cover or show flier, maybe you like the name of the band or song titles, or the packaging speaks to you. Sure sometimes your gonna hate it but others you'll find something new you like that you didn't find on facebook or amazon and didn't pay a club that 's treating the bands you're seeing like garbage and they'll never come back here. And keep doing it. Again and again and again. This is how we all learned about music, we weren't born with the all this knowledge.
And to show I'm not always a pesky curmudgeon, here's a NYT article I really like!!
Zines Have A Resurgence Among The Web Savvy
Y-E-S! I'm all for print making a come back!! It doesn't burn your knees when your on the toilet and you can take it anywhere with you where you can hold the paper without powah!! And you can make it anywhere with a writing instrument and something to write on. I do think the web is good at getting the word out and I'd like to see more people make their zine available for download-how many of you got a copy of P-H-O-T-O-S-T-A-T-I-K Still out there read it electronically or print it out for your convenience. And publish your own media if you feel the need to! You are the media!
Till next time...Tally Ho!
